Cornish Pirates boss Ian Davies was impressed with the improved attitude of his side as they won 16-14 at Nottingham in the Championship.

The Pirates had lost four of their last five games, including a last week.

"We spoke all week about showing some attitude after the poor performance at Doncaster and we showed it in spades," Davies told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"We still made mistakes, but we didn't compound them by making another."

The result moved Pirates up to sixth in the Championship, seven points off Nottingham who occupy the final play-off spot.

But Davies says he is not focusing on trying to make the top four just yet.

"Technically we've also got a chance of being relegated, so we're looking both ways really.

"It's about trying to get our performance right to the levels we know we can perform at.

"If we do that then we're going to win more games than we lose, but that's the challenge.

"We have Rotherham at home next; they're targeting the top four as well. If we can win that, then we move on to the next game and then the next game and the next.

"There's no easy matches in this league and anybody from fourth to 12th can be relegated and anybody from fourth to 12th could be in the play-offs."
