Wales and Cardiff Blues wing Alex Cuthbert will miss Saturday's Judgement Day clash against Ospreys after having a finger operation.

Cuthbert, 25, should recover in time for Wales' World Cup preparations which begin in July.

But the British and Irish Lions player's surgery rules him out of most remaining Blues games this term.

A Blues spokesman said: "Alex will be assessed and we're hopeful he will feature before the end of the season."

Cuthbert, who rejected the offer of a national dual contract earlier this season, has a year left on his current Blues deal.

The vast majority of the Welsh-based players in the Wales squad have signed dual contracts.

Wales head coach Warren Gatland has said Cuthbert's refusal of a dual contract will not affect his chances of being selected.

But Cuthbert, who has scored 14 tries in 32 appearances for Wales, did lose his international starting berth to Scarlets full-back Liam Williams during the Six Nations.
