Wasps and former Wales prop John Yapp has announced his retirement from rugby after suffering a back injury.

The 32-year-old made 13 appearances for Premiership side Wasps after signing from Edinburgh in July 2014.

Yapp also won 21 Test caps for Wales, and was part of the squad that won a Six Nations Grand Slam in 2005.

"It's a hard feeling to get to grips with, knowing I will never be able to get out on the pitch for another game of rugby," he told the club's website.

"Unfortunately, while the mind is willing, the body isn't, but I can look back with great pride and a sense of satisfaction on a long career."

Yapp spent 10 years of his career with Cardiff Blues, before spells with Edinburgh and Wasps' Premiership rivals London Irish.

He made his international debut as a substitute against England in 2005, before making his final Wales appearance against France in 2011.
