Jonny Hill: Exeter Chiefs sign Gloucester forward
Exeter have signed Gloucester forward Jonny Hill on a two-year contract.
Hill, 21, who has played twice for Gloucester in the LV= Cup, is a former England Under-20 international.
The 6ft 7in lock has been at Sandy Park since the end of last season recovering from knee and ankle injuries.
"Forwards who are big enough and look like they'll physically develop into the size of men and type of athletes you need are not that common," Exeter head coach Rob Baxter told BBC Sport.
"We looked at Jonny playing some England Under-20's rugby and little bit of rugby for Gloucester. We felt he had the attributes to grow into that big, physical, athletic type of player that you need in the modern game in the front five."
Baxter added that a loan move for the inexperienced Hill, who has never played in the Premiership, was not out of the equation.
He continued: "The way we operate, we're very keen on getting lads rugby as quickly as we can and not have them hanging around too much.
"So if it looks like he's up and running and the best way for us to get him playing rugby is for him to go on loan, then we'll look at that.
"But, at this stage, what we're really looking at doing is getting him up and running and training with that senior squad and see how things go from there."
Meanwhile, Exeter have appointed former Plymouth Albion captain Ruairi Cushion as a development coach.
