Head coach John Wells has signed a three-year deal to remain at Newcastle Falcons, working alongside director of rugby Dean Richards.

Wells joined the Falcons' coaching staff in 2012 and was retained by ex-Leicester team-mate Richards on his arrival later that year.

The 52-year-old took on the head coach role at the beginning of last season, replacing departing Kiwi Peter Russell.

"I'm chuffed to bits to agree the new deal," said Wells.

He told the club website: "I can continue with the work that we have started. We went a long way last season, with the club now playing an entertaining and exciting brand of rugby and now we want to see more wins."
