Richard Lane says he wants to develop his game at Jersey after moving to the Championship club.
Lane, 22, came up through the academy at Bath but failed to make a Premiership appearance for the club.
"I'd done four years at Bath of training a lot and not being able to put it onto the pitch," the full-back told BBC Radio Jersey.
"For me it's not really a step down, just a chance to play week in week out and develop my game."
Lane was one of 16 new signings Jersey boss Harvey Biljon brought to the island side during the summer.
Jersey begin their pre-season this weekend against National One club Plymouth Albion before games against Scarlets and Blackheath as they prepare for their opening game of the season away at Yorkshire Carnegie on 6 September.
"We won't know how they gel yet until we see these next three or four games," Biljon told BBC Radio Jersey.
"It's something that takes time for a team to come together.
"It's going to take us six or 12 months to get this new squad firing on all cylinders."
