Fijian centre Sireli Naqelevuki will not return to Exeter Chiefs next season after being refused a new visa.
The 34-year-old's application was rejected because injuries have restricted him to just 12 appearances in the past two seasons.
Naqelevuki joined Exeter from South Africa's Stormers in 2010.
"It is a shame because he has been a fantastic player for us and a real inspiration for us too in our time in the Premiership," said boss Rob Baxter.
He confirmed the club had intended to offer Naqelevuki a new contract for next season.
"It is a bit of a tragic way for his time with us to finish really, not just because we wanted him to stay and he wanted to stay, but because we didn't get to say goodbye in the way we would have liked to at the end of the season," Baxter told the club website.
Naqelevuki scored 11 tries in 39 appearances for the Chiefs, but was an unused replacement when they won the LV= Cup by beating Northampton in 2014, the first major trophy in their history.
