Championship side Jersey have signed Australian-born lock forward Dave McKern on a contract until May 2017.

The 26-year-old has played in his home country for top-tier team UC Vikings for the last two seasons.

"Dave has all the attributes to become a real asset to our pack and he'll have the chance to take his game to the next level this season," Jersey head coach Harvey Biljon told the club website.

"He'll be in contention for selection as soon as he's settled."

The injury-stricken Channel Islanders moved off the bottom of the table with a 28-19 win at Moseley and host Bedford on Saturday.

McKern, who has also represented Super Rugby franchise Brumbies, qualifies for England through his Shrewsbury-born father.
