@433 if Lancaster lets the press pick his teams he definitely needed to go.@434 "they will never win a World Cup again" - as opposed to your lot who will never win one ever?
433 SWBorderer well said. Rugby U is becoming like soccer. The media which includes ex players who have been out of the game for a long time who are now self proclaimed experts, had it in for SL. SL didn't help himself by changing a winning team against Ireland a few weeks before facing Wales in the WC. The substitutions were un explainable at a time Wales were on the rack, that is what cost him!
The RFU need to shoulder responsibility for this , England need to be looked after by a separate organisation and this freemasons union disbanded.Good luck to SL hope he finds work soon.
Lancaster was the wrong choice. No real high level experience. No international involvement. The focus on style over substance was admirable but flawed . He was a nice man but without the grit to succeed at the highest level proving that nice guys come last . However there are others -Ritchie, Beaumont and especially Rob Andrew -all these failures must go. England have the resources but lack leaders
432. paul - I received 8 thumbs down when early I posted that Argentina would walk the six nations...the 8 obviously couldn't see what was patently obvious.. Japan and Argentina won games with an efficient pack and moving the ball wide..the only NH team capable of doing that was Scotland.. and look where it nearly got them.England didn't have the coaching, the nous or belief..
426If England had played Wales with the same team/tactics they has in the 6N v Wales they would have been so far ahead in the last 20 minutes it wouldn't have mattered who was taking a penalty.I suppose Giteau " knew the selection criteria" but had a coach wise enough not to discard talent they didn't have anywhere else.
426RFU should apologise to Burrell [agreed], Armitage [he was in France & knew the selection criteria], Cipriani [unreliable place kicker/moderate defence], Atwood [out of form], Abendanon [in France & knew the rules].P45 to Owen Farrell [If he had taken that last penalty against Wales he would have taken England level & they would have gone through. He missed nothing in the RWC]
The point behind this is that England were found out as a scrum and push team, They will never win a world cup again, Send for Johnny, he won it by kicking and they made sure he could kick It is immaterial who is in charge when you have a chip as big as the England team and media, nothing will save you from defeat against south of the Equator teams.
Lancaster was hung out to dry by the RFU. He was presurised by the press to pick Burgess, then vilified when "superman"failed to deliver. The England Rugby job is becoming the same poison chalice that the football side has.Too many prima-donnas in the English squad, average players thinking they're world class.England have lost a good man, l wish him success in the future.
ebony warriorYet I received 8 thumbs down when early I posted that Argentina would walk the six nations. Those that thumbed that down would do well to remember they outscored the rwcc in the group stages.
Sorry about SL. Decent guy who tried hard, but surrounded by mediocrity and stifled by 57 old farts in blazers. Whoever comes next must insist that the appointment will be on his terms alone - so Ritchie, Andrew, greedy overbearing clubs, pay heed. You are letting the nation down - badly.
