Scotland hooker Scott Lawson has signed a new two-year deal to remain at Newcastle Falcons.

The former London Irish front-rower, 34, has been with Falcons since 2013 following their promotion back to the Premiership after a season away.

He has since made 46 appearances and only missed two league matches for Dean Richards' side last season.

"A longer stay was something I wanted to happen and now that it has, it feels good to be valued," Lawson said.

"Having been here for two years and at the start of something, it's really good to be involved in the continuation of getting the Falcons back to where they want to be."

Director of rugby Richards added: "Scotty has been an important person in our squad since his arrival, which so much experience both at Premiership and international level.

"He brings with him all the ability and commitment you'd expect from someone of his calibre."
