Neither, just poorly handled by England. Summed it up for me when they picked Barritt to play alongside Joseph against the Aussies. Have you guys heard about Ackfords article in the Times? I'm pretty embarrassed being a union supporter.
776 ChrisHenly Completely agree. Today's international was boring, slow, scrappy, and didn't seem to have any atmosphere. Now I know you can get union matches like that too, but to argue that league is invariably a better game than union is extraordinary.Every sport has its good and bad days. Each of us has a sport preference but it doesn't mean one is rubbish and the other magnificent.
OrwellHow could one person be so bitter and twisted? At least he can make smile!
@782 Orwell I think you will find more people watched the first 4matches of the the rugby World Cup live at the game than watched the whole of the RL World Cup. Your game is limited and Sam found that you can't parachute in. Even Money Bill Williams played two seasons in France before international rep for the All Blacks. More skill? Enjoy your RL, just don't pretend it's bigger than Union
Great times for RL. The goal kicking world competition turned the public off, the players and management have highlighted what a poor game and product it is. Kick and clap had a chance to shine and blew it. Now we have a decider between eng and NZ on the BBC in front of a sell out crowd. People can see the direct comparison and realise what a hyped up poor game fat public schoolboys play.
Burgess blamelessLancaster, Andrew and Ritchie should all go ASAP. Thats the line of command which has failed English Rugby and made it the laughing stock of the world.Thats what would happen in any other organisation wishing to be taken seriously. Unless Hamlet Cigars restart their advertising campaign they will be struggling for sponsors next time around.
ThelongwhitecloudGet an adult to re read it to you or look up the word sarcasm.ChrisHenlyYes it was poor for a RL game but that's only because we are used to and expect such high standards. in terms of skill, speed, power and commitment it was still better than any game of RU could ever be. The ball wasn't in play for only 20 mins with countless collapsed scrums and kicks. No fat blokes!
Burgess?Quitter. He and Farrell senior should sit in their League cave and ponder life.Poor Mike Ford admitted tonight Burgess couldn't be straight with him.Riddance for a mediocre plodder.
SB came to union just to play in the world cup, he had no intention of staying!he fooled the inexperienced management and then fled, he is an arrogant quitter.on a better note, dave ewars has to be in the england team at blindside, awesome!henry slade at IC awesome! we need a coach capable of selecting our brilliant players not some over hyped RL yellow belly playing in blind faith!
776, well said sir, it was dire.
773 OrwellDid you enjoy the Eng v NZ league game today? Scrappy, little attacking play, poor passing and only one try scored. Had that been a union game you'd be on here telling us how bad it was, and how much better league is. Yet as it's a league game you seem to be ignoring it. The silence is deafening.
773. Posted by Orwell .... stephen jones balanced take on the subject, mate you should do stand up.as for eastmond and burrell, of course we know they played rugby league but both learned their union craft unlike SB who didn't have a clue.so don't give it the poor sam bit, he came over from an easier game with the temerity to think he would be good enough to play the world cup. he failed!!!!
This whole burgess thing is a charade and if we're not careful will distract from the real problems:1/ Lancaster, out of depth2/ Farrell, corrosive influence on SL, terrible substituitons etc. Don't forget match ban from Uruguay game.3/ rowntree, 5 lost scrums against Australia! Talks a great game4/ Catt, childish spat with cipriani. Barrit and burgess!!5/ pointless rob Andrew
Sick of the one sided garbage spouted in the press, especially in The Times by very limited obscure players , Paul Ackford being the latest. Can't wait for Stephen Jones' balanced take on the subject. It really is 1984 with no right to reply and nonsense being presented as truth! All those going on about Eastmond and Burrell are you aware of their rugby background?
He doesn't strike me as a quitter, more totally disillusioned with the RFU. If an employer mucked me about like this and l had an offer elsewhere, l'd be off too!
losersBath, Bath fans who pay good money every week, longer term development of England team, tthe RFU fascination with bringing league influence into Union - should have realised the shambles that Andy Farrell has broughtwinners rugby league in Australia, Burgess family, his bank balance!!Overall a quitter!!
