Jersey have extended the contracts of Lewis Robling, Ross Adair, Rich Lane and Brendan Cope until at least the end of the 2016-17 season.

The four backs have been key players in Jersey's rise to fifth place in the Championship this season.

Centre Robling, 24, signed from Dragons in 2014 and has scored three tries in 42 games for the island side.

Lane and Cope, who are both 22, and Adair, 21, all joined head coach Harvey Biljon's side last summer.

South African fly-half Cope has been an ever present in the league this season, while former Ireland Under-19 international Adair has scored three tries in 15 games.

Lane, who spent three years with Bath, has played at full-back in nine league matches and three British and Irish Cup games for Jersey.

"Although there's a huge amount of rugby to be played this season, we want to build for the future and I'm delighted that four key members of our squad will be back at St Peter next season," said Biljon.

"Lewis has really matured as a player since coming to Jersey. His leadership abilities have begun to shine through and he is set to be an important figure for the squad as we move forward.

"Both Ross and Rich have shown the raw potential that caused them to be on our radar as the current squad was put together in the first half of 2015. I expect them to continue their development and become stand-out Championship players.

Biljon added: "Brendan has settled into the English style of rugby well. It's been a huge learning curve for him but he has seized the opportunity of his first professional contract and shown a great attitude."
