One possible solution would be to allocate 6N places based on world rankings after AI. 6 highest ranked Euro nations play in the 6N proper with the rest competing in a concurrent competition to ensure that all nations still gain ranking points. However based on the result today, although it comes down to fine lines, Georgia need more experience at this level.
It's not more the merrier at all! We've just seen Scotland, who the stats show have been one of the two weakest teams in the 6N over the last 10 years, hammer Georgia. It would be pointless - never mind the sponsors not being keen! Fine having a double header enc winner vs bottom of the 6N in the Autumn. If they win then they've earnt it!
The more the merrier. However if it gets up to 10N then perhaps a two tier system with promotions/demotions at the end of each international year. Something like this could impact on The Lions and the Barbarians though. Something will have to give.
@110 Or introduce a new European Championship along these lines between the world cup years?
You could turn the 6N into an 8N. Two groups, semi and final. Still only mean playing 5 games at most and would bring in other countries.
75 ObsenThanks for your concern. Could not find euro or rouble etc key.Making point all about money, Tier Two nations wanting shares and Tier One nations holding on.Autumn Internationals about filling Union coffers.RU only been open since 1995, so still adapting.Could national teams compete in expanded Pro12 or AP ?
RLIF could only dream of the situation WR are in, with second tier nations chomping at the bit to improve and broaden the sports appeal. Yet this opportunity seems to be passing WR by.England play Aus every year, four times this year alone. Love the summer tour series, but giving Tier two sides some time each Nov and playing RC sides a little less often would be a win-win.
I think we need higher quality not only expansion. Italy generally are only there as the whipping boys. They scrape an odd victory now and again - but cannot sustain any momentum - due to their lack of depth in all positions. I would transform Italy into a combined team of Romans (Italy+Romania+Spain) and add another team of Cossacks (Russia + Georgia). Until they are able to compete on own.
40 Walesforever1'in fact I think Georgia should have a play off v England to determine who should play in the 6N'England have won their last 12 in a row, including a series win in Australia and beating SA a couple of weeks ago. Wales' performances in the AIs so far have been somewhat less that steller and they would struggle against Georgia at the moment, especially in Tbilisi.

@ 103. JontymoThe Lions will survive. They will survive for one reason and one reason alone... Money. The ARU pretty much survives on the income generated by The Lions tours every four years and both NZ and SA aren't going to turn that revenue down, they can't afford to.As for the 'Tier 2' nations, it is about time they were given a fair go, Japan are good enough, just ask SA and Wales!
What people don't seem to understand is that post 2019 the calendar will eventually move to a World Cup every four years and a European championship every four years, juts like soccer. The large English and French clubs will see to that. And enjoy NZ next year...the last Lions tour ever...by 2021 SA will be in even greater political turmoil and the major clubs will refuse to release players....
The yearly schedule is already packed full there is no room to expand anything let alone the 6 Nations
@99 ROsbif"Don't know what the fuss is all about, Wales get to play Tier 1 teams regularly"Yes, and dumped England out of their own world cup barely 12 months ago. So, yes, let's give Georgia a chance. In a few years time we may get another laugh at Twickenam.
