Championship side Jersey Reds have signed Tonga international back Apakuki Ma'afu until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old centre is the third Tongan to join Jersey's squad after Samisoni Fisilau and Uili Kolo'ofa'i.

Jersey have suffered injuries to Lewis Robling, George Eastwell and Regan King, while Samoan centre Fautua Otto was sacked after being jailed.

"We needed to bring in a player and I think he'll be a very good fit," Jersey boss Harvey Biljon said.

Ma'afu had been playing for Australia's National Rugby Championship leaders NSW Country Eagles and has won three caps for his country.

"He knows Sami Fisilau and Uili Kolo'ofa'i and both of those guys spoke very highly of him both on the field and as a person," added Biljon.

"In the few days he's been here you can see that he's beginning to fit in well with the players and the group."
