@258Again. That repugnant attitude is why the home nations dont like you. Just as well you dont represent and speak for all the other english fans i know and reapect. Clearly are a troll and not that significant. Go and crawl back below your bridge
257. Don't recall them winning it?? There are only the E gland squad of 2003 in the UK qualified to answer the question.
@254Thats precisely the sort of inflamatory comment that makes the sporting planet dislike certain nations. Scotland got out of their group last WC. Where were the hosts ?
Let's stop throwing barbs at each other, this is not the XV to start the 1st Test. Maybe the strongest Lions team would be Farrell starting not Sexton, Otoje would be there, no doubt North would get the nod ahead of Seymour. Yes, too many Welsh but he's the Wales coach.. How lucky are we that we can put out a strong XV for each game. No Billy V big loss, Faletau not nearly as good. BRING IT HOME
"Anyone involved in club finals or play-offs last weekend was not considered." So why on the recent article is Elliott Daly listed on the bench?
Not sure why the Welsh, Irish or Scottish players would have a valid view on the Lions tour / RWC debate, as none of them have ever, or more than likely, will ever win the RWC, so it is a pointless question.BV is a great loss, TF is simply not as good. Good back line but may struggle with the pedestrian ball from Laidlaw.Possibly the weakest 2nd row we could field?
@252 Nimrod2Johhny, Guscott, Barnes, Dolly and even your own RWC winning capt on sky tv recently stated that it was almost an impossible comparison but to be a player or captain amongst a group of the greatest players in the uk and to win a lions series in the All Blacks back yard would mean and surpass anything else in rugby as its an ONE in TWELVE years (and probably the only) chance to do it.
247Most of the 2003 English squad would put the RWC ahead of the Lions. The two may be different animals but winning the RWC means that you are, at that time, unquestionably the best in the world. That is not necessarily true of the Lions; you might just be best in the NH. Big difference.238 You missed BV's cross kick in the 6Ns then. It was the right tactic and darn nearly worked.
238 I would certainly say grudgingly the closest thing to one in the European game. The number 8s in the south play like backs and have such a range of weapons - offloads, grubbers, sidesteps, chip and collect. The number 8 up here has a very limited role but certainly faletau is the closest I've seen to what they have.
@247I love your comments, but you must be on the bevy if you think a once every 4 yr set of matches betters or is more important than a RWC.I think every one of the England squad that won the RWC would differ from your comment.
Stand corrected if that was the case
@ 247I think you got the wrong end of the stick mate. He said the players stated winning the RWC was their greatest trophy, but being a Lion was their greatest achievement.
@212 browniethehooker.Funny that because I probably know most professionals to semi professionals in your neck of the words from Benny to Brynmor to Byrne and I dont know one who would say a RWC would surpass a Lions winning tour. So what I want is who are these players who transparently state the pinnacle of their career is a RWC.....not one single english I would suggest
Looking at the still before the video at the start of the article and I have to ask but did Sam Warbuton eat something on the plane that caused an allergic reaction?
This comment was removed because it broke the house rules. Explain
Not reading too much into this selection, it is the first match and most of these guys have had a couple of weeks rest compared to those involved in matches last weekend. Hopefully this will give WG a chance to see these players outside their clubs or countries. #LetsheartheLionsROAR
Great team to be starting the tour on, lots of pace, guile, power & experience, great bench too. They just need to play to their strengths; strong set piece, keep possession, go through the phases and don't give away silly penalties 'cos that's the only way they'll stop us racking up a big score!! Let's get behind the British & Irish Lions, can't wait !
240 1ncredibleSulkI do not hate Faletau. He is a very good international player. But I must admit I would have picked his younger cousin ahead of him if he was fit. Hansen was a bit concerned about the physicality that Billy Vunipola brings with him and pretty much said as much. Especially as he is offloading well in contact now. He's getting better and better.
Well Good luck to the British & Irish Lions especially in the 3 Tests that matter the most!, I believe that the Squad has the Players to edge this Series 2-1 if Managed well & Warren Gatland has the nous to do that I believe!.
