@575 That is easy to say after yesterday's performance but it was clear to see from the game I was watching that the provincial barbarians had a lot of passion but the skill level was average. They were nothing special and we won by 6 points. That was 2nd tier rugby as far I'm concerned, from both sides.
At every level in NZ the standard of rugby is higher than we see here week after week, anyone who expects an easy game in NZ knows nothing about their set up.This was a typical first tour game, a few people put their hands up but l would prefer to wait a couple of games before l make a judgement.
@570 last time I checked Australia have not won a World Cup for 18 years and unfortunately you do not receive trophies for winning group games. Obviously the Aussies are still salty from the 3-0 loss to England and landslide in world rankings
Interested to see if Gatland drops his precious captain from the test side if he puts another performance in like that. Not just Warburton, AWJ, Hogg, Sexton, Best and JJ all need big games next time they hit the field.
Some crazy reactions. A win is a win. First game, no prep time at all, what exactly were people expecting? Don't judge the tour on one game and get stuck into everyone. Get behind the lions and trust that the longer they are together the better they will get. It's the age of knee jerk reactions.
The british loons prove 100% u can polish a turd . from the country that brought u the LISBON LIONS Gatland & co should be ashamed. but the LOONS r all about the money
562. BloodyPomsnYanks As an Aussie, you'd be pretty clued up on 3-0 drubbings. Have you forgotten yours was in your own backyard whilst the Lions are taking on the best team in the world away from home? Having dumped a poor England out of their own WC it must have stung to then have the same side go 4-0 against you in a single year scoring 140 points + in the process. Nice username btw.
WG said all players would get a game in the first three matches. The team picked today was from the players available to him from the first training sessions. The Lions teams will get stronger from now so no need to panic and no need to write today's players off either. AB ex player said who cares if the Lions don't win the other games all that matters is that they win 2 tests, very true.

some of the txt I have read are appalling. I assume many are: either not rugby fans or know little about the game. The snipping is pathetic. You won a tough game against a good team. You did not play very well but you did win. Yes we have depth in our rugby and every game will be hard. Accept it and drop the arrogance expecting to blow everything off the park. And drop all the excuses
@565 agreed, excuses are far more embarrassing than the performance itself. Doesn't look promising for tests but have to take it in the chin and put it right.
@499I can't believe I am hearing the excuse that the Lions were holding back in the scrum! Were the wings also not running as fast as they can? Teams go in to win and give it their best. that is the attitude our teams in New Zealand bring to the game. I still believe the Lions do as well. They came up against a team that played well, was committed and never gave up.
Wow this tour is going to be blood bath. Not the country to tour without bringing your A+ game.
Sloppy play stopped the Lions scoring tries, but there were times when they were making ground with serious ease. A clinical edge would have seen them finish off those attacks. The game they are looking to play requires time for it to gel, they aren't going to be a side who chuck the ball around and score tries for fun. All about structure and that will take time. Still won't beat the ABs though.
As a neutral observer nearly half way across the world from either country all I can say is wow are the All Blacks going to crush the lions. 3 - 0 for sure.
Wasn't jet lag to blame or the opposition (although they excelled themselves), this was just a simple off night. I put it down to nerves - the most hyped Lions tour of all time. You can bet the next game will be better from the Lions. They won't match the NZ ball handling, but are aiming to blow them away with physicality and intensity, and if they can find those qualities that is still possible.
