As a kiwi and AB fan -most here agreeing that AB loss was a win for rugby as well as Lions -but also think Lions fans shouldn't get too excited given-player numbers [although Itoje did his best to make 15 on AB side of the game]- unevenness of refs handling of dangerous play-debatable penalty to win in 76th minute-ABs with 14 in control for at least 50% of gameSo yes, BRING IT ON!
1663.Tellitasitis Perhaps some payback for Umaga and Mealamu's dreadful spear tackle of Brian O'Driscoll in 2005 ===For God's sake, give it a rest, this has been done to death. It's in the past, it's over, let's get on with the game today. The only people who can't let it go are the Irish, who still whinge about this and the BOD dropping 4 year ago.
Perhaps some payback for Umaga and Mealamu's dreadful spear tackle of Brian O'Driscoll in 2005 which went totally without punishment or apology. Glad to see refs now protecting players better. Have to congratulate the ABs though - they nearly pulled it off with 14 men. Glad they didn't though, as we now have a decider - should be a cracker!
Dont understand why the ABs sacrificed Kaino. Surely with the way they play they needed 8 forwards on the field - or do they think 7 AB forwards are better 8 Lions forwards!
@1628Why blame Gatland and Warburton? with players giving away stupid penalties it was difficult to get any impetus or go forward. Cant blame them for certain players stupid actions, if they don't improve discipline next week we will get beat.
Breaking my word! Never trust an Irishman! By the "code" I meant that I have the feeling that it is the intentionality of foul play which gets more emphasis while here it's the danger element esp. recently
Final word I promise!I don't think the abs are dirty but I think the "code" is a bit different in the north which leads to a lot of indignation on both sides. I thought Hansen and Read were magnificent after the match and Hansen's gameplan after half time was just masterly. Gave his team a chance to win which 14 men had no right to really.
ABFL - hope we all enjoy the game. All the best and good luck too.
@1655 we are in agreement - hopefully next weekends match will be just about rugby and nothing else. 15 vs 15. Good luck for the game
Abfl I completely accept both of MV's hits on BB were intentional.Itoje did the same thing to Sexton with NO punishment in six nations. He was well-punished for the first with 3 points and got a deserved yellow for the second. But neither were red. Cruden was just as intentional and got more advantage from the push out on the sideline but that (correctly imo) was just a pen too.
Hi ABFL, I agree SOB very lucky but some element of doubt. SBW indisputable though. MV was a yellow but no more. Officials will be key next Saturday and dilemma for AB's given the level of scrutiny. When in this situation in past they've pushed every rule to limit and beyond to win. If officials show same backbone then AB's likely to suffer same fate. Hope focus will be on quality of rugby instead
At last a ref with the cojones to send off an AB for foul play. Don't suppose Joubert or Watson would have. Well, it's in the Lions' hands now. NO MORE SILLY PENALTIES ! We can't expect Barrett to have another off day. The ABs aren't superhuman - Dagg in particular looked past it. Game on next Saturday !
@1652 - some valid points, though on both occasions MV hits on Barrett was intentional, doesn't look good on youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4LB2-rKVKoNo way did MV fall on Barrett, leads with right shoulderAll I'm saying is this, the ref needs to be fair & just in his decisions, on this occasion he wasn't - the Lions got away with their tactics and not for first time this tour
AbflI think SOB is a very lucky boy. He got the benefit of the doubt but there was some doubt to benefit from. Do you really think MV was more than a yellow? It was intentional and stupid and a deserved yellow but not really dangerous. He falls on top of BB and more pushes than strikes his head. I know if it was my son playing I would prefer him to get 20 of those rather than one of SBW's.
@1650 well the ref didn't think so did he?
