Scott van Breda: Jersey Reds captain eyes injury return before new year
Jersey Reds captain Scott van Breda says he hopes to return from a fractured cheekbone later this month.
The South African utility-back joined the Championship club this summer and picked up the injury in their win over London Scottish in November.
Friday's 19-19 draw with Nottingham was the third game he has missed since.
"It's just a matter of staying fit and hopefully in three, four more weeks I can get back out there and join the boys," Van Breda told BBC Radio Jersey.
"It was just a freak accident - it's the only time I've ever been hit in the face in my whole career.
"In my mind I'm pushing for the Hartpury game (22 December). We'll see what the physios and doctors have to say, but that would be my Christmas present to myself."
Meanwhile, Jersey head coach Harvey Biljon was frustrated that his side could not beat Nottingham, with a last-gasp Brendan Cope conversion hitting the post.
"There were two or three moments where I think we just need to be smarter," he said.
"We let them in with silly decisions to try and catch the ball and a silly penalty."
