Lightning...Valkyries....over-hyped and pretentious or just plain silly...this applies to the men's clubs as well. Just another daft copy of American sporting culture!!!
7 Achilles Whilst that story is true. Euro champ, Dina Asher Smith would be beaten by a 15 year old boy, as would Freya Anderson, and Jo Konta would beaten by any half decent male club tennis player, but it's ok to watch them but not Rugby or Soccer or cricket.What's the difference??
@15 Would you make the same comment re Matt Garvey if you manage to win anything this year?
This comment was removed because it broke the house rules. Explain
There should be a separate section for Women's Rugby as there is for cricket and football. Coverage that the BBC gave the last year Primer 15s was rubbish. There was hardly any reports of the women's championship compared with what you get with the men's. If you look at the bbc website they are still doing it. There needs to be Gender Equal Sports Coverage.
@7 Groan ..... how many times is that crock of c**p going to be regurgitated by people. Talk about sucking up fake news! I've got a bridge? Want to buy it?As for it being on the main rugby page! Simply don't click on the article if you're not interested. Even Darren from Devon can manage that so if you can't you're being out thought by a village idiot
@10, it may very well be growing but there isn't any money to make it Pro and I'm afraid once the powers that be try and charge money for it people simply will not go. As for NZ v Aus women I suspect nothing else was on the box that night.
Fact check regarding popularity/viewing - recent NZ v Australia women's txt match attracted a peak of 576k viewers. To put it in context the men's Super Rugby final (Crusaders v Lions) pulled in 779k. It's here. It's growing and if people don't want to watch or read about it, just don't switch on or click.
@8 only because people are easily brainwashed into thinking that it would be wrong and un-PC not to give it a go. (The BBC have an Agenda)The standard is low yet the BBC coverage it already gets is undeserving, if it was solely based on the standard of the rugby then people would rather go down their local club and watch on a Saturday afternoon.
@6 And the more exposure it gets, the more people will watch it! The figures for age grade internationals has tripled since it has got more exposure.
More BBC propoganda. Pure and simple. There should be a. separate site and section for women's rugby. trying to conflate the two is RIDICULOUS. Pub standard. If anyone wanted to know the difference between the gender's sporting abilities: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4389760/USA-women-s-team-suffer-5-2-loss-FC-Dallas-U-15-boys.htmlNEVER FORGET
@5 so a few thousand watch it then.Some real rugby news, Billy V is back. GREAT NEWS.
@4 Well the first part is! There are numerous schools and womens teams who watch the games either on TV, when its shown, or live. There are a number of males who watch the international games, especially those of us who spend time watching lower levels mens team and just watch ANY rugby!
Don't get me worng its great that women play rugby, the more the merrier. But you can not tell me it deserves coverage on the Main BBC rugby page when the championship doesn't get any.and @3 you are just wrong.
@2 Wrong on both counts!
Yet another story about womens rugby on the main rugby page zzzzz, give it rest BBC no one watches it apart from friends and family of those involved.The womens game turning pro would have to rely on the mens game to fund it.
