Scarlets consolidated third place in Pro14 Conference B with a bonus point 36-17 victory over league strugglers Southern Kings.

The hosts scored six tries from Tevita Ratuva, Ed Kennedy, Ryan Conbeer, Uzair Cassiem, Dan Davis and Tom Rogers.

Scarlets are six points behind conference leaders Edinburgh and three adrift of Munster.

South African outfit Kings responded with tries from Howard Mnisi and Christopher Hollis.

South African international prop Werner Kruger took over the Scarlets captaincy from the injured centre Steff Hughes.

Samson Lee was still out with a slight calf issue, while Paul Asquith came into midfield and Fijian international lock Ratuva started.

There were a couple of late changes with Wales squad flanker Aaron Shingler pulling out through illness and was replaced by Kennedy. Lock Sam Lousi also withdrew because of a bad back with Steve Cummings starting.

Wales wing Steff Evans almost opened the scoring in the sixth minute after latching onto a kick from Dan Jones but television replays showed he was in touch before grounding the ball.

Full back Courtney Winnaar produced a successful long range penalty after Scarlets scrum half Kieran Hardy was penalised for an illegal tackle.

Scarlets responded with a well worked try for lock Ratuva following clever build up play from man-of-the-match Josh Macleod and Phil Price. Jones converted.

Kings appeared to have regained the lead with flanker Ruan Lerm diving over from short range but it was ruled out by television match official Brian MacNiece.

A ill-advised quick free kick tap from Hardy on his own line resulted in an attacking Kings scrum with centre Howard Mnisi strolling over for a try Demetri Catrakilis converted.

An exquisite Asquith pass laid the foundations for Kennedy to canter overall give Scarlets a 12-10 halftime lead.

Kings responded after the interval with a try from wing Hollis following an inside pass from Elrigh Louw. Catrakilis converted.

This setback appeared to briefly galvanise a lethargic error-strewn Scarlets side with replacement wing Ryan Conbeer gliding over for a fine individual effort which Jones converted.

South African number eight Cassiem burrowed over to claim the Scarlets' bonus point try before replacement Dan Davis latched onto an O'Brien cross kick.

Scarlets were rampant in the final quarter with replacement wing Rogers completing the scoring on his home Pro14 debut.
