America's Cup: New Zealand need one more win for victory

New Zealand on verge of victory

New Zealand need just one more win to secure the 34th America's Cup after the potential title-clinching race was postponed on Wednesday.

After Tuesday's races were moved back 24 hours, the Kiwis claimed a 15-second victory in race 11 to lead defending champions Team Oracle USA 8-1.

But they were denied the chance to claim a decisive ninth win when high winds returned to San Francisco Bay.

Victory for New Zealand would be their third in the race's 162-year history.

Their previous titles came in 1995 and 2000.

Defending champions Oracle were docked two points and had three crew members banned before the competition started.

An international jury found them guilty of illegally modifying catamarans and also fined them $250,000 (£160,000).

The penalty meant they had to win 11 races compared to just nine for the Kiwis.
