Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing retain the lead by five points

Chinese challengers Dongfeng Race Team finished fourth in a dramatic seventh leg of the Volvo Ocean Race to miss out on going top of the leaderboard.

They lost out on third behind Team Alvimedica by just 55 seconds after nine days of racing from Newport, Rhode Island in the USA to Lisbon, Portugal.

The Chinese might have finished third and been one point better off had it not been for a poor final turn.

Leaders Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing finished fifth and are five points clear.

Their Emirati boat now has just two legs remaining - from Lisbon to Lorient, France and then to Gothenburg, Sweden - to hang on to their lead in the round-the-world race.

Dutch boat Team Brunel won stage seven of the race in nine days 11 hours, nine minutes and 49 seconds, with Spanish team MAPFRE more than 20 minutes further back in second.

Team Brunel are now third overall, just one point behind Dongfeng.

The race, which takes in 39,000 nautical miles and visits 11 countries, finishes on 27 June after nine months of racing.
