Jersey shooter Gareth Callan to captain GB for first time

Callan has represented Great Britain for more than 20 years

Jersey shooter Gareth Callan will captain the British team at the Long Range World Championships in South Africa.

Callan, 47, has represented GB for more than two decades but until now has never been handed the captaincy.

He takes a squad of five to the Cape Town event, which begins on Monday 9 September.

"The teams to beat are going to be the hosts and the Americans," he said.

"We have two in our team making their international debut but I am confident we have a really good chance."

Callan last year after success at the Muzzle-Loading World Championships in Germany.
