Mark Allen's hopes of successive world ranking tournament wins in China were dashed on Wednesday.
Less than a month after his World Open win in Haikou, Allen suffered a 5-2 defeat by England's Ricky Walden in the first round of the China Open.
"That didn't go as planned," said the Northern Ireland man on his Twitter account.
"Poor performance and some costly errors at wrong time. All credit to Ricky. He played solid."
Walden's win earns him a last-16 meeting with Scotland's Stephen Maguire.
