Nigel Bond has said he will take great confidence from reaching the third round of the UK Championship.
Bond, 49, played some of best snooker in years, fighting back from 5-0 down to beat 2013 World Championship runner-up Barry Hawkins 6-5 in round two.
But the Derbyshire star was unable to hang on to a 4-1 lead in his last-32 match with Anthony McGill and lost 6-5.
"I can be positive as I've played some good snooker but I'm disappointed to lose that way," Bond said.
"It felt like I could have gone on a bit of a run, but it wasn't meant to be. I played with quite a bit more confidence after the Barry Hawkins game than I have all season."
The 1995 World Championship runner-up, who lives in Old Tupton in Derbyshire, beat Stuart Carrington 6-3 in his first-round match.
