Mark Allen was edged out 5-4 by former world champion Shaun Murphy in the second round of the German Masters.
The Antrim player led the Englishman 4-3 before slipping to a deciding frame defeat in Berlin on Friday.
Allen was seeking to avenge his 6-2 loss to Murphy in the Masters semi-finals last month in London.
A 5-2 victory over Mark Williams, another former Crucible winner, on Wednesday saw Allen progress to the last 16 stage.
Allen was attempting to move beyond the second round of the tournament for the first time in Berlin.
