Jimmy Robertson says he feels much more relaxed playing on the "big stage" after his third-round exit at this season's UK Championship.
The world number 37 lost 6-3 to Shaun Murphy, but gave the world number six a scare after fighting back from 3-1 down to level at 3-3.
Robertson has already matched his efforts from last season by reaching the third round of four ranking events.
"I felt alright and I was pretty comfortable," said Robertson, 31.
"I didn't play wonderfully, but I did a few good things in the game."
Murphy managed five breaks in excess of 50, but Robertson scored four half-centuries, including frame-winning breaks of 81 and 90.
He added: "I made a few too many mistakes and you can't do that against a player of Shaun's class and not get punished."
Robertson has been working on the mental side of his game with a coach to try to help him perform in the latter stages of events.
"I want to kick on further in tournaments," he added. "I am getting more consistent early on in tournaments but I need to crack on a bit.
"I am working on my self-belief and confidence, but my coach can't play the game for me."
