Speedway: Gareth Isherwood drafted in by Mildenhall Fen Tigers

Mildenhall Fen Tigers have signed Gareth Isherwood after two riders suffered fractures in less than a week.

Aaron Baseby broke his ankle in a crash last weekend, only days after joining the club as a replacement for teenager Josh Bates (broken arm).

Isherwood, 23, will make his debut in Saturday's Knockout Cup semi-final second leg against former club Stoke.

However, it will be his first ride this year after injuring his back in a fall in a meeting against Mildenhall.

"The main thing is Gareth is keen to race and be part of a team," co-promoter Michael Lee told the Tigers website.

Isherwood has been booked for three meetings, by which time the Tigers will have a better idea of when Bates will be fit to ride again.

"Gareth knows that and has told me that he is determined to prove his worth. I can't ask for anymore than that," said Lee.

Meanwhile, the team's number one Cameron Heeps, who also rides for Ipswich Witches, is to see a specialist next Monday to check on how the fractured scaphoid bone in his wrist is healing.

"I am confident that Cam and Josh will be ready for the play-offs which is great news and means we will be at full strength," Lee added.
