Peterborough Panthers suffer double injury setback
Peterborough Panthers have suffered a double blow to their hopes of being involved in the Elite League play-offs.
Ryan Sullivan suffered a suspected broken wrist in his opening ride in the 57-31 defeat by Belle Vue on Monday.
And team-mate Linus Sundstrom may need surgery after injuring his shoulder in a crash in heat 15.
The Panthers are currently fifth in the table and need at least a draw at Coventry on Wednesday to take fourth place and make the play-offs.
Mads Korneliussen and Rory Schlein have been drafted in as guest riders because of the injuries.
"A concussion and a bad shoulder is the result from last night's crash. X-rays were not too positive and might need some surgery to it," 21-year-old Sundstrom posted on Twitter on Tuesday morning.
The meeting against Belle Vue was abandoned one heat short following Sundstrom's injury, but the officials ordered the result would stand.
Peterborough's team manager Jan Staechmann promised they would "keep going right until the end" but said they were not having any luck at the moment.
"It sounds like Ryan has broken his wrist in three places," he told the team's website.
