Ramy Ashour saved a match point before going on to win his third world title in an absorbing final against fellow Egyptian Mohamad Elshorbagy in Doha.
Fourth seed Ashour, 27, beat the world number one 13-11 7-11 5-11 11-5 14-12.
Elshorbagy, who was beaten by Ashour in the 2012 final, saved five match points himself, battling back from 5-10 down in the deciding game.
But the creative play of Ashour, who also won the 2008 title, prevailed over 23-year-old Elshorbagy's power game.
