World team squash championship: England's women top group

English squash player Alison Waters
Alison Waters, 30, helped England win gold at the world team championship in Edmonton in 2006.

England will play Ireland in the quarter-finals of the Women's World Team Squash Championship after beating Australia 3-0 to finish top of Pool B.

England squad number two Alison Waters and competition newcomers Sarah-Jane Perry and Emma Bedoes all won.

The result completed a 100% record for the second seeds following wins over Wales, Germany and Spain in Canada.

Team coach David Campion said: "Our first priority was to top the group and we've done that now."

Ireland booked their place in the last eight for the sixth time in a row by beating New Zealand 2-1 to take second place in Pool A behind top seeds and defending champions Egypt.

The other quarter-final ties will see Egypt play Australia, Malaysia play France and Hong Kong face the USA.
