England's Nick Matthew and Alison Waters both lost out in their respective finals at the Tournament of Champions in New York.
Matthew lost 3-1 to world number one Mohamed Elshorbagy of Egypt at the Grand Central terminal.
The 34-year-old from Sheffield won the first game but his rival showed his power to come back into the match.
Waters was defeated by the same score by Elshorbagy's compatriot Raneem El Welily
The fifth seed made a strong start against El Welily before the third seed recovered and wrapped up victory.
"I really enjoyed the match," said Matthew afterwards. "You get to a stage in your career when you just have to enjoy the experience because you might not have many more of them."
Following her loss, Waters tweeted: "Raneem was too good tonight. Crucial second game. A great week for me though and loved every second playing in that amazing setting!"
