Wimbledon: Alex Bogdanovic suffers qualifying defeat

Alex Bogdanovic lost his chance of a ninth appearance at Wimbledon after he crashed out in the first round of qualifying at Roehampton.

The Englishman, 27, went down 7-6 (11-9) 6-3 to German Bastian Knittel.

Jamie Baker beat fellow Briton George Morgan 6-3 6-4, while Oliver Golding, 17, saw off Joshua Milton 6-3 6-2 in another all-British tie.

Liam Broady won 6-3 1-6 12-10 against Italian Alessio Di Mauro but Alex Ward lost a similarly tight match.

American Ryan Harrison lost the first set but eventually prevailed 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-4) 6-3.

Daniel Smethurst also went out as he was beaten 6-2 6-3 by Slovakian Karol Beck.

Women's qualifying begins on Tuesday while the draw for the Championships takes place on Friday.
