Wimbledon: Defeat for final British qualifier South

British interest in singles qualifying at Wimbledon ended as Melanie South lost 7-5 6-3 to Misaki Doi of Japan.

South, who reached the second round proper in 2006, had beaten Liana Ungur 6-4 6-4 in the previous round.

There was better news in the men's doubles as David Rice and Sean Thornley progressed with a 7-6 4-6 6-3 win over Alessandro Motti and Stephane Robert.

However, Katie O'Brien and Anna Fitzpatrick, and Samantha Murray and Jade Windley, were eliminated.

O'Brien and Fitzpatrick lost 6-3 6-3 to Russians Nina Bratchikova and Valeria Savinykh, while Murray and Windley were beaten 6-1 2-6 7-5 by Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Jessica Moore.
