British number one Elena Baltacha is through to the second round of the Mercury Insurance Open after a comprehensive win over Melanie Oudin.
Baltacha beat the American 6-0 6-1 in Carlsbad, California.
The world number 60 said: "It's certainly one of the best performances I've had at a WTA Premier event, because the opposition is always really strong at these tournaments."
The 27-year-old faces third seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the next round.
"I'm absolutely delighted with that win," added Baltacha as she searches for her first WTA Tour title.
"I played a very solid match from the first point to the last and to do that at this level is a big encouragement for me.
"This is a match I want to build on because every match I play is great preparation for the US Open, which starts at the end of this month.
"I'm looking forward to playing Radwanska. I played her once before, at the French Open a couple of years ago, and played pretty well against her.
"I'll have lots of confidence and I'll feel like I have nothing to lose because she's expected to win."
