Heather Watson beats Anne Kremer in Quebec opener

Watson has not played since pushing Maria Sharapova to three sets in New York

Guernsey's Heather Watson has won her first match since being knocked out of the US Open by Maria Sharapova.

The British number three beat Luxembourg's Anne Kremer 6-2 6-4 in the first round of the Bell Challenge in Quebec City, Canada.

Watson dominated from the baseline and bounced back after going a break down in the second set.

The 19-year-old will face either Swedish fifth seed Sofia Arvidsson or a qualifier in the second round.
