Britain's Anne Keothavong made a superb start but ended up losing to third seed Jelena Jankovic in the second round of the Generali Ladies event in Austria.
Keothavong, who enjoyed one of her best victories of the year in the first round, dominated the first set in Linz as Jankovic struggled with her serve.
But the Serbian found her form and eased to a 3-6 6-2 6-1 victory.
Keothavong, ranked 96th in the world, was handed a lucky loser's spot to take her place in the main draw.
"Unfortunately, I couldn't keep the good stuff going but I've had 5 decent matches this week and overall I'm feeling good," Keothavong said on Twitter.
Fellow Briton Elena Baltacha pulled out of her first-round match because of injury on Tuesday.
