East Yorkshire prospect Kyle Edmund came up short in the final after winning five matches at the Yucatan Grade One tournament in Mexico.
The 16-year-old, from Tickton near Beverley, was beaten 6-2 6-4 by Austrian Dominic Thiern.
But it was a good effort against Thiern, 18, a player 20 places above him in the junior world rankings.
Edmund will now head to Florida, where he has been seeded seventh for the Eddie Herr International.
He tweeted "Big test will be the switch from hard to clay!"
