Australian Open: Jamie Murray loses doubles first round

Jamie Murray saw his Australian Open men's doubles campaign end in round one after he and Paul Hanley were beaten by Julian Knowle and Michael Kohlmann.

The Briton, who partners Peng Shuai in the mixed doubles, and Australia's Hanley lost 7-6 (7-2) 4-6 7-6 (7-5).

Liverpool's Ken Skupski and Belgian team-mate Xavier Malisse went down 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 to the Italian pair of Daniele Bracciali and Potito Starace.

Londoner Anne Keothavong and Germany's Mona Barthel also lost on Thursday.

Barthel and Keothavong, who retired midway through the opening round of her singles match on Monday through illness, lost 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 7-5 to Croatia's Petra Martic and Kristina Mladenovic of France.
