British number three Heather Watson beat Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic 6-4 6-4 to reach the second round of the Estoril Open.
Watson, ranked 115th, overcame the world number 98 to book a match against fourth seed Petra Cetkovska in round two of the clay-court event.
British number one Elena Baltacha lost 7-6 6-1 against second seed Maria Kirilenko in Portugal.
Watson had to win three qualifying matches to reach the main draw.
The Guernsey-born player took two hours and 33 minutes to defeat American Sloane Stephens 4-6 6-4 6-2 in the final qualifier.
