British number two James Ward is one match away from reaching the US Open main draw for the first time after winning in the second qualifying round.

The 27-year-old Londoner claimed a hard-fought 6-4 6-4 victory over France's Vincent Millot.

He will face Radu Albot in the final round on Friday, after the Moldovan beat Marton Fucsovics 6-4 3-6 6-0.

Ireland's James McGee is also through after defeating India's Yuki Bhambri 5-7 6-2 7-5.

The Dubliner, who is 195th in the world rankings, will face China's Ze Zhang for a place in the main draw.

The 27-year-old is aiming to qualify for a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.

Ward, meanwhile, has already played in the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon this year, and has moved to a career-high world ranking of 131.

He also reached the third round of qualifying for the US Open last year, but lost in three sets to India's Somdev Devvarman.
