Serena is clearly the best ever followed by Venus and Monica Seles (before she got stabbed).Between 2000 and 2003 the William sisters were unplayable and there were serious arguments in the press back then that they could play on the ATP tour.Watching old tapes of Navratilova, Court and Evert is like watching tennis in slow motion. Even Seles would have ripped them apart and she did!
@173You have obviously not seen much of her all-court game then...no credit for being one of the best movers in the game then?If the likes of Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert can say they think she's the best ever, who are to argue?
So let's get this straight then...The most dominant force in women's tennis over the last 15 years who relies on power and aggression to destroy opponents decides the best way to win is to feign injury and appear weak? Have these people any tennis knowledge? That would be like Mike Tyson in his heyday stepping into the ring and crying...what fantastic tactics!Hate the game; not the girl!!
Williams only wins because she plays like a man, not many women serve at 125 mph. She should play a charity match against a man from the top 5 then see who is the best

From Bueno onwards I have seen them all live. Its a straight fight between Court, Graf and Serena as indicated by their records. When Court wasn't pregnant or disinterested she was probably the best, if only because she could play any version of the game she chose. I also believe Venus played second fiddle too readily, but then her nature isn't confrontational, is it?
169It's got more to do with the ideal of "feminine" in the minds of men, women, ad agencies and the world at large. It's hardly a surprise the pretty girl gets double the endorsements from clothing brands and cosmetic lines. If you're surprised at that then I have a factoid that will blow your mind (but keep it a secret) - ssshhhh - the Sun rises in the east......
Interesting that, despite her huge success on court she is curiosly ignored at large by the Ad Men & Marketeers. Seems they prefer Shazza (who earns most of her income from endoresements) to sell their products. Wonder if this could be due to the target clientelle, or the view of what equates to the ideal of feminine in the world of marketing.
@166 geordie mick "Didn't you see Navratilova, Evert, Jean King, Durie or Graf. "I was a big fan of Jo, but she never made it past a slam semi, and only made the semis twice. Comparing her with the others in your list would I suspect embarrass her. Williams is right up there with the rest. To say that she couldn't have beaten any of them is quite frankly daft.
@166 she is not the best ever but it is stupid to assume she may not have won a Grand Slam in in their era especially of you stick Durie in there.
How can you say she is "the best". Didn't you see Navratilova, Evert, Jean King, Durie or Graf. Williams is admittedly very, very good but would not have won a grand slam with these ladies still playing
Martina, Chris Evert, McEnroe, Henin & many more have said she's the best ever. Is there any more to be said. And on bad behaviour, McEnroe/Connors/Murray/etc/etc have form. And every other sport has people with bad behavour - footy, boxing, etc.
I liked Zina Garrison, Lori McNeil and Chanda Rubin and currently like Madison Keys and Venus WiIlliams, but I dislike Serena because of her frequent swearing and aggressive behaviour which are contrary to the rules and spirit of the sport. I also dislike Maria Sharapova but that doesn't mean I have something against white people either.
My own perspective on how the men's tennis landscape looks after the French Open and with Wimbledon just weeks away...http://samhopwood.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06/what-now-for-tennis-big-five.html
Layla #115 Pot calling kettle black?I'm not aware that Andy Murray has ever criticised Serena's behaviour or language on court !!Your metaphor (or whatever) is misrelated.
Of course Wawrinka wasn't lucky and played an unbelievably good match. Don't think Djokovic was quite at his best but I'm not sure it would have mattered on Sunday - Stan would have beaten anyone. One thing is for sure though Novak Djokovic will be back winning yet more GS events.
