Rogers Cup: Johanna Konta wins but Naomi Broady is knocked out
British number one Johanna Konta progressed to the second round of the Rogers Cup with a 6-4 6-2 win over American Shelby Rogers.
The 25-year-old, who won her first WTA Tour title on Sunday, claimed victory in one hour and 21 minutes in Montreal.
The world number 14 will play American Vania King in the next round.
Britain's Naomi Broady lost to lucky loser Varvara Lepchenko after original opponent Garbine Muguruza pulled out with a gastrointestinal illness.
Broady, ranked 84th, was beaten 6-4 3-6 6-3 by the American world number 50.
French Open champion Muguruza, the third seed, had received a bye in the first round.
