Surprise Wimbledon star Marcus Willis was beaten in his first ATP match since losing to Roger Federer on Centre Court in June.
The Briton, 26, was given a qualifying wildcard at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna but lost 6-3 6-7 (9-11) 6-4 to Moldova's world number 103 Radu Albot.
"Fought hard today," Willis said on Twitter.
"Gutted I couldn't get the win but great experience and lots to be positive about."
Willis was ranked 772 when he won six qualifying matches and then beat 53rd-ranked Ricardis Berankis at Wimbledon.
Seven-time champion Federer ended his run with a one-sided win in the second round.
Andy Murray is the top seed in Vienna and will take on Willis, ranked 498th, and 2001 Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic in an exhibition event on Sunday.
