I agree with 92Maria Sh’Pova for ever and always favorite tenniser
I just want Maria Sharapova to win French Open. She needs to win it now.Other players who I would like to win if not Maria are Sloanne Stephens or Muguruza or Azarenka or even Kvitova. It would also be nice to see Konta play well on clay for a change and progress to second week in Paris. If Wozniacki or Angelique Kerber win I won't mind.Monica Puig playing well would be nice and Serena failing great
Im hoping Williams doesn't have the same massive hair she did at the royal wedding, it'll play havoc with her backhand.
I think Serena will do well to win a match. she is seriously short of match time, and no matter how much you practise, it is never the same as playing a match. Serena has nothing to prove, being one of the greatest ever, no matter what the trolls on HYS comment.
@85 Could not disagree more! 1980 and 81 finals were superb and McEnroe demolishing Connors in 84 was probably the best tennis I have ever seen - when you consider the rackets they were playing with. Wonderful fast courts that allowed less powerful attacking players with fast hands to keep the power players off balance. Sadly we don't see players like McEnroe or Edberg or Hingis any more
@83 You say Nadal 'would've beaten even Borg'. Not so sure. It would depend on what sort of rackets you were playing with. Remember Borg won 6 FOs and retired at 26. Nadal's success is hugely linked to modern rackets. He would have had to hit his forehand completely differently with 70s/80s rackets and would not have generated so much topspin which would decrease his margin for error.
Id be more of a threat at the French Open than Konta. I think she can rediscover her form but not on a clay court.
#69 offended at lack professional language & yours to talk about a great champion with pressure repetitions. Wonder what two of you have accomplished?#74 has one valid reason why many defensive on statements not applauding Fed re FO, & want Rafa to win FO, but appreciate both. Still surprised many so eager to argue they do not read carefully or understand statements arguing about.
“And the only major on Clay” as Wimbledon is the only relevant tournament in grass @29 slightly more variation in shots but very few of them. The French comes on the back of 4-5 quality clay tournaments while apart from the Webber and Wimbledon, grass proves just a novel surface. Certainly the most boring era in tennis history was Wimbledon in the 80s. Still I enjoy both for different reasons.
Konta is a 'threat' at the French Open? They must mean a threat to the bookies' profits if enough people back her to go out in the first round.
Whatever the result of this year's French Open, Nadal is undoubtedly the greatest clay court player ever. He would've beaten even Borg. Anyone who wins the title from now on, will know they're lucky not to have played Nadal in his pomp. Federer may be the all round GOAT, but even on grass there are a a few (and no doubt future) greats (including Nadal) who could have beaten him on any surface.
@Sir Reg"Johanna Konta says she is a threat"This chutzpah has unmasked her inner arrogance and self-entitlement. she'll probably do a Bedene and go back to representing Australia/Hungary/Rest of the World/United Nations [delete as appropriate]
Bet the bbc won’t have the stones to open up Konta HYSWhat they just made is an outrageous statement!
