@ 6 Hfuhruhurr "I'm not sure it was the heat that got to SS. Was it any hotter than earlier in the week ?"You may be right, I was talking more about conditions in general. That said, SS looked like someone who'd been drained by successive matches in too much heat. It's not so much the heat on the day, it's successive exposure which will make you run out of gas. Kinda like stress injuries.
I'm not sure it was the heat that got to SS. Was it any hotter than earlier in the week ? She seemed sluggish and lacking focus from the start. We won't know but I think there was something else going on there.
Shame to see Sloane had a bad day at the office which was definitely not helped by brutal weather conditions. Sevastova obviously handled heat better & didn't let the crowd get to her to win in straight sets.Looking forward to Williams v Sevastova semi. SW is fast & her fitness level is up there now so AS's drop shots have to be inch perfect.Serena has to start well but should still win.
The condition were brutal and not conducive to tennis. Sloane Stephens looked shattered after just a few games and was clearly in distress from the conditions. Anastasija Sevastova played very well and was assisted by Stephens who made so many unforced errors.Sevastova appeared to able to handle the conditions well. That being the case she will be a serious contender to win the US Open.
What a brilliant performance that was from Anastasija. No need to find excuses she simply played far better than her opponent. Not to mention she was playing with the whole crowd totally against her, yet still kept her head and her "cool" to play some outstanding tennis.
Do people keep banging on about this heat to push the global warming agenda? Sure seems that way, New york is always hot thia time of year. Those talking about the heat are trying to plant the false notion that man is in control of the weather, & not Almighty God.
The US Open should probably have been postponed due to the dangerous conditions. 5 people had retired due to heat a week ago, how many is it now?
