@516Alastair & Johnny Brownlee Steve RedgraveDaley Thompson.Seb Coe/Steve Ovett. George Best. Ken Buchanen.BobbyMoore. Gareth Edwards To name but a few. Which names don't you recognise? That's laughable. I like Andy Murray as a sportsman too, and best UK tennis player? yes. Best UK athlete over last 1,000 years/all time? (it has been written here) Poppycock.
Dear all. Thank you. I am touched by your personal posts which I read avidly. I have some serious poolside thinking to do.Andy.
Murray has been the best British player ever.. we genuinely cannot compare Fred Perry to him, that's just silly.
Dear Andy Having recently had a hip replacement operation I know how much hard work it takes just to try and get back to normal. Longer for me because I'm 76. However you have give me so much pleasure watching you every year. You have given a great deal to British tennis and now is the time to think deeply about what you want to do. Good luck for the future whatever you decide.
please just stay retired you will never be as lucky as you have been in the past you will be embarrassed big time by a average player you have the body of a much older man sorry to say your finished
Andy, look after yourself - you have done more than enough for goodness sake. you are written in history. A kind and sincere man. For the nasty people - have you achieved what Andy did? Time to call it a day - it comes to all. Best wishes.
From now on he’s going to be playing inside Bob Bryan’s heart.
Why are so many people so full of hatred and vitriol? I'd love to see him back. A true champion and top bloke all round. Fingers crossed.
@The Deuteronomist: 'Retire or play' - well it's not really that simple is it? If he is going to play, it will be when is good and ready, not when some online anonymity says he should - and if he doesn't, then that's his choice too. He's EARNED the right to choose.
Please please please don't retire Andy, it's not that I like you as a tennis player, but I think i'll like you even less as a commentator!
@491 - That is embarrassing and clutching at straws comes to mind. Murray is by far more Popular and has achieved more than any of they names. Half of them were 20/30 years ago and the other ones Ive never heard off. Laughable
As a doctor I can say that he needs to definitely retire or I see years of painful and complicated surgery ahead of him. He needs to think of the long term. Like Justine Henin did. Realistically can he beat people like rubber man Novak in grueling joint-crunching rallies? Can be modify his game to be super aggressive? Unlikely.
@505 Yes you missed alot. Keep up.
@511 you have no clue really. I am sure you have expert knowledge in some sports but it's not tennis. Bye bye, have a nice life.
And the soap opera continues..... the BBC/Murray publicity machine has been re-oiled and set back to work. It's amazing considering he retied in January according to the 'trustworthy' BBC!
