@504 CommonSenseIsDead 'Have you actually read the comments on here? That's it for me, there's no point in communicating with someone who cant even bring themselves to express a moral position on something so simple.... 'Yes all of them & I have expressed my position they are fine, they are within the BBC guidelines. You will have to content yourself with your feeling of moral superiority!
503 Have you actually read the comments on here? That's it for me, there's no point in communicating with someone who cant even bring themselves to express a moral position on something so simple....
@501 CommonSenseIsDead You are clearly hard of understanding, so I will try one more time. What is said on HYS and is not removed by moderators is not abuse! So in my opinion it is perfectly OK, it is not abuse, and it is free speech. You can sanctimoniously say you disagree, that is you right too!
Oh and before you do perhaps you should take a look back at this thread and witness the closet racist, misogamy, nationalism, and vindictive nature of some of the comments on here. Neither of the 2 combatants in said tennis match deserve to be on the end of any of that....
500 How about actually answering my original question instead of making this about me? I'll try one more time.Is it ok to dish out abuse to people, sports men & women, politicians, tv/movie stars etc, just because of the position they occupy in society?Simple enough question...
@497 CommonSenseIsDeadIf it were abuse, it would be moderated off the site. You are saying you are setting the standards, when you are not and have no right to. I might think telling people 'to get off their lazy backsides and do something with their lives', which you have done, is also abuse so please try not be so sanctimonious.
488. Posted by CatwomanI am guessing that people do not spend 24 hours on just eating, sleeping and working. That they have free time. And, some perhaps maintain their life balance by letting off steam. By the way, I do not support any hurtful comments.
490. Posted by GordbYou are right. I want to add my opinion that anHYS on the exchanges between Johanna Conta and the journalist would have been appropriate and more newsworthy.
496 What has that got to do with anything? So you think its ok to abuse people just because they're in the public eye?Are people incapable of expressing their opinions without descending into vitriol? No ones telling you what to think, all I'm asking for is some human decency and thought towards the tone of language used, which is hugely lacking in the murky waters of hys....
@495 CommonSenseIsDeadNo, you have missed the point - what is said on HYS & is not removed by moderators is free speech - just because you don't like it & view it as 'bile & hatred spewed forth on here about a lot of topics from people who have nothing better to do with their lives' doesn't make it so. Your judgement of what is acceptable and what is not is not worth more than anyone else's.
493. No, see again you've totally missed the point. Critisism is fine, its called free speech. What is bang out of order is some of the bile and hatred spewed forth on here about a lot of topics from people who have nothing better to do with their lives. As for my time on here well prior to this article I haven't commented on anything in months....
Condemning the bad behaviour of Williams or McEnroe isn't prompted by 'bile' or 'hatred' (yawn), racism or misogyny (double yawn). I would hope anyone who saw another person being abused in the street would respond negatively to it, or try to stop it, rather than claim it was great 'entertainment'. Sport influences people, hence why the conduct of sportspeople merits attention.
@491 CommonSenseIsDeadYou have no way of knowing what anyone contributing to HYS does when they are not making comments & you can't assume that you have done something worthwhile while others have not. The only certain thing is that you spend a lot of time on HYS 'defending' sportspeople in the spotlight which is your right, but it is also anyone's right to come onto HYS and criticise them!
Totally agree with Gordb, Silva and Hoyt have been completely snubbed by the BBC, absolutely and totally disgraceful
478 How do I know? Because its a serial pattern seen regularly on hys, and I have done something worth wile. I am not in any way singling out AM or specifically defending him, its anyone in the media spotlight who has done nothing but play their sport. No one deserves such ridicule.
