Derry triathlete Aileen Reid finished eighth in the third round of the World Triathlon series in Yokohama, Japan.

American Gwen Jorgensen won from runner-up, Australia's Emma Moffatt.

Reid completed the event in 1:58.59 and lies ninth in the overall rankings on 1033 points, with the next round to be staged in Madrid at the start of June.

Reid had ended in 12th place in the first race in Auckland in April and followed that up with a disappointing 17th in San Diego three weeks ago.

Saturday's race in Yokohama was made up of a two-lap 1500m swim, a nine-lap 40km bike leg and a flat and fast four-lap, 10km run.

Morrison completed the swim in 19 minutes, 22 seconds, the bike leg in 1:03:23 and the run in 34:42.

Great Britain's Jodie Simpson was third of the 23-strong field of women, just one second behind two-time world champion and Beijing Olympics bronze medallist Moffatt.

Reid, who finished 2012 ranked seventh in the world, trained in Australia at the start of this year under new coach Darren Smith.

Her performances in the first two World Triathlon Series events of the year were hampered by a knee injury.
