Jodie Stimpson outsprinted for second in New Zealand World Cup

Britain's Jodie Stimpson in action

World Triathlon Series silver medallist Jodie Stimpson was outsprinted for second place at her first race of the season in New Zealand.

Andrea Hewitt pipped Stimpson, 25, in Sunday's World Cup event won by American Katie Hursey, who finished runner-up at last week's season-opener.

Stimpson's fellow Briton Helen Jenkins, 30, came in fourth, 15 seconds back.

This year's World Triathlon Series, won by injured Welsh athlete Non Stanford in 2013, starts in Auckland next month.

The World Triathlon Series is considered the pinnacle of the sport, with eight events throughout the season culminating in August's Grand Final in Canada, while the World Cup comprises nine races, the last in October.
